Reminder for parents:
Please check and initial your child's agenda each day. I will do the same. At school, your
child will take the responsibility of writing
At home, they should assume the responsibility for showing you their agenda each night for
initialing. It often helps to set up a routine for this beginning in September.
Integrity
We practise the "Zones of Regulation" in our classroom. Ask your child
what it means to be in the "green", "blue", "yellow", or "red" zone. We will
be discussing the various "triggers" that
red and how this affects our learning, AND, the learning of those around
us. Students will brainstorm strategies to help regulate their
behaviour and get them back into the "Green Zone". We will develop a
"Tool Box" to help us get back into the "green" learning zone when we are
at school. This is where we do our best learning!
Homework...
There are differing opinions on homework for this age. Some parents feel children of this age shouldn't have any; others feel there isn't enough. Generally, students at this age should be doing no more than 30 minutes per evening. The most important activities at this age are those which help your child further his/her literacy and numeracy skills. Generally, your child's homework this year will be daily reading or writing (20 min./evening). Helping your child learn & MEMORIZE math facts (addition, subtraction and multiplication) is another great way parents can help their children at home.
All other school work should be completed within the school day. Any work other than that which is listed above that your child brings home, is work your child was not able to finish in class. If this is occurring on a regular basis, please contact me so we can discuss strategies to better help your child complete work within the class time. All homework will go home in a Ziploc bag labelled "Homework" and should be returned the next day.
